Gordon Roberts


Gordon Roberts is originally from Pennsylvania, but has made South Florida his home since 1985. He holds a B.S. degree in Music Education from Wilkes University and B.M. and M.S. degrees in Conducting and Piano from the Juilliard School. Roberts was part of The Lincoln Center Program – touring and giving many solo concerts as well as guest soloist with numerous orchestras throughout the United States.

He is winner of the National Baldwin Piano Recording Competition and the recipient of the prestigious Connell Award from Northeastern Pennsylvania. He has performed worldwide as accompanist for the Internationally renowned Mezzo-Soprano Jennie Tourel.You may have seen him on television, where he hosted several programs over a ten-year period including Musical Minutes for Educational TV, and later a weekly series called Topic where he had the opportunity to interview visiting performers, celebrities, and politicians. He is the founder of the Elm Park Concert Series in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where his functions ranged from producer to occasional performer.

As a conductor, he has worked with chorus and orchestra from symphony, opera, oratorio, and Broadway including the Pennsylvania premiers of Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Medium and William Walton’s The Bear. In the “pop” field he was the founder of Complete Sound Plus One, a group of singers and instrumentalists that performed music from Bach to Bacharach.

Roberts has generously given of his time to the arts in South Florida by serving on the boards of The Public Theatre, ArtServe, and The Chopin Council.

In 2004 Roberts had the pleasure of seeing his first original musical Friday, Saturday, Sunday, showcased at Lynn University and supported by the legendary Jan McArt. In 2005 he directed, arranged, and performed in the first recording of Friday, Saturday, Sunday. And since that time has served as Music Director for many Broadway shows produced by Jan McArt at Lynn University in Boca Raton – all with full orchestra.

Most recently Roberts was founding Artistic Director/Conductor of the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida based in Ft. Lauderdale, which, under his auspices performed at a quadrennial gathering of LGBT choruses in Denver, Colorado; as the guest of the renowned Symphony of the Americas at Broward Center; and at the University of Miami’s famed Gusman Center. Roberts’ arrangements, orchestrations, and leadership helped thrust this fledgling chorus onto the National stage in a very short time.

Over the past few years Mr. Roberts has worked extensively with Opera Fusion as conductor and accompanist for many concerts – some now virtual, including the world premier of the opera/theater piece “Not In My Town”. Having the opportunity to work with so many extraordinary artists and singers is a tremendous honor.

During this crazy isolated time Mr. Roberts accompanied several virtual concerts with Metropolitan Opera Soprano Nadine Sierra. Additionally, Roberts serves as music director/organist at First United Methodist Church in Ft. Lauderdale. He is also owner and principal designer for a major residential/commercial design company in South Florida and Alexandria, VA – Eagle Rock Design, Inc.
